History:

Father Son Challenge at ChampionsGateSee the greatest collection of Major winners ever assembled compete in the Del Webb Father Son Challenge for the Willie Park Trophy, awarded to the best father/son team in Golf.

Golfing greats such as Raymond Floyd, Lee Trevino, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Dave Stockton, and Hale Irwin introduced the game of golf to their sons as they brought them up, and as a result have produced players who are following in their footsteps and are beginning to garner notoriety in their own right.

The nationally televised Father/Son Challenge provides a forum to determine the best father/son team in golf and offers golf's famous stars the opportunity to strengthen family bonds. Craig and Kevin Stadler won their first title in 2002 with a one-hole sudden death victory over Hale and Steve Irwin. Raymond Floyd won the event five times, with Raymond Jr. in 1995, 1996, & 1997 & with Robert in 2000 & 2001. Jack and Gary Nicklaus won in 1999 after a three-hole sudden death playoff with the Floyd’s, while Bob and David Charles won the 1998 event.

"It was something very special," Floyd said. "The tournament is a great concept. It is so fabulous to play alongside your son. I have played in tournaments and had both of my sons caddy for me. To play with Raymond and Robert in this event makes it very, very special. "Special to win, especially special to win with your son," Jack Nicklaus said.

"This could be the greatest tournament to come down the pike in a long, long time," said Lee Trevino, who has played with his sons, Tony Lee and Rick in alternating years. "I think a lot of people were curious about how well our sons could play. This gave our sons a chance to see what kind of pressure their fathers have been facing for 20 years and more, "Trevino said. I was very proud of the way my sons handled the pressure."
